Streich further extends his tenure in Freiburg, the team he has coached since 2011
"It's nice that we still enjoy coming to the coaching office and have an open and honest exchange," said Christian Streich. "The constellation here is special and it's a pleasure for me to be able to continue working together with my coaching colleagues at this club." In addition to Streich, his assistants Patrick Baier, Florian Bruns and Julian Schuster also extended their contracts at SC Freiburg.
Record coach
Streich is the Breisgau club's record coach in the Bundesliga with 347 games under his belt, and he has coached the Freiburg professional team in a total of 430 competitive games. Last season, he led SC to the final of the DFB Cup and the Europa League, where Freiburg will play the second leg of the last 16 against Italian record champions Juventus Turin on Thursday (first leg 0-1).
Freiburg, currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga, has a good chance of qualifying for a European competition again. At the beginning of March, the two board members Oliver Leki and Jochen Saier had already prematurely extended their contracts until 2027.
"We are delighted to be able to continue working in this very special constellation, both in terms of content and people," said Saier. "Christian Streich's coaching team works day after day with great attention to detail and maximum commitment to the development of our team."
