22:38 CET - That was certainly feisty. Barcelona have been held 0-0 by Getafe in the first match of their LaLiga title defence, but the contest was full of drama. Both teams had one player sent off, while Xavi was also given his marching odds, alongside 10 yellow cards. In the end, the two sides will take a share of the spoils.

22:50 CET - Patrick Vieira has got his Strasbourg career off to the perfect start, as his side survived a late onslaught to secure an impressive 2-1 win over Lyon.

22:45 CET - The second half is underway between Getafe and Barcelona with the score still 0-0. However, Barca are down to 10 men, after Raphinha (26) was sent off for a ridiculous elbow on his opponent. Pretty pathetic.

22:21 CET - Mathys Tel (18) suffered shocking racist abuse after Bayern fell at the hands of Leipzig in the German Super Cup, and the Bundesliga champions were quick to condemn the 'inhumane 'abuse.

Read more about that story here.

22:27 CET: Cristian Romero (25) was subbed off in the first half for Spurs against Brentford after picking up a head injury, and manager Ange Postecoglu said the decision was a no-brainer.

Read his quotes here.

21:51 CET - Chelsea were mighty impressive in Mauricio Pochettino's first match back in the Premier League against Liverpool, and the Argentine was indeed pleased with his side's performance, but guaranteed that they would get even better. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp said there were positives to take from the Reds' display.

21:29 CET - Willian Jose (31) has broken Villarreal hearts, scoring a 96th-minute winner for Real Betis to give them a 2-1 win at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

20:39 CET - Next up tonight: Barcelona begin their LaLiga campaign in 50 minutes at Getafe. Ilkay Gundogan (32) IS starting for the Spanish champions, while Oriol Romeu (31) also starts.

20:30 CET - Thomas Frank was feeling pretty positive after the result with Spurs, and says Brentford have shown they can cope without Ivan Toney (27).

See his quotes here.

19:49: If you can rewind your mind to a few hours earlier, Spurs drew 2-2 with Brentford. Speaking after the match, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said supporters have a reason to believe despite the departure of Harry Kane (30) after his first taste of Premier League action.

Read what he said here.

19:35 CET - Well after a thrilling first half, the second 45 minutes was a bit of a step down, but still pretty good. In the end, the game has finished 1-1, but Chelsea were most definitely the better side. It's obvious how much of an impact Pochettino has had already. They played some really nice, free-flowing football in the second half, dominating the contest. With the addition of Caicedo, they will be even better.

But in the end, they were unable to take their chances, while the Reds struggled after the 30-minute mark. Liverpool need to get a holding midfielder, and even a defender. They were just too easy to play against for the large majority of the game.

Enzo Fernandez (22) was absolutely sensational. He is going to be special under Poch.

19:04 CET - Over in LaLiga, Osasuna downed Celta Vigo 2-0, while in France, Rennes thumped Metz 5-1.

18:40 CET - Right, the second half is underway. Don't forget, you can follow all the action through our live audio and text commentary.

18:24 CET - Phew. What a half. Chelsea started slowly but ended up completely dominating towards the end of the 45 minutes. Both sides look really fragile in midfield with no No.6 on the pitch, but it has made for a really entertaining game. Liverpool themselves fell away after a good start, and Klopp will need to sort it out at half-time.

18:11 CET - Now Chelsea think they have gone ahead, but VAR deems Chilwell to be offside. My word, this is breathless. The momentum has shifted. End-to-end stuff. Two totally open midfields. No wonder they want Moises Caicedo.

18:08 CET - Against the run of play, Chelsea have equalised! Axel Disasi pokes home after a header from Ben Chilwell, but that was some shoddy defending from Liverpool this time.

18:00 CET - Liverpool are all over Chelsea, and so nearly doubled their lead. Salah thought he scored, but VAR deemed him offside. Regardless, the Blues are just so open defensively. Being cut apart at will. They need to sort it out.

17:49 CET - Liverpool lead at Stamford Bridge courtesy of Luis Diaz, but my word, what a piece of magic from Mohamed Salah! The Egyptian wizard played an absolutely mesmerising pass to Diaz, who slotted home at the back post! Jurgen Klopp's men lead.

17:32 CET - Play is underway at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea and Liverpool begin their seasons in this really intriguing match.

17:08 CET - Tottenham will have to settle for a 2-2 draw with Brentford in their first match in the post-Kane era. The first half was a breathless affair, with all the goals being scored in those 45(+11) minutes.

However, after the break, both sides were far more measured, and looked happy to settle for a draw, which was ultimately a fair result. James Maddison (26) and Yves Bissouma (26) were superb, with the former picking up two assists on his debut.

Tottenham showed positive signs in attack, playing with some fluidity. But at times, they did look a bit shaky at the back. However, there is definitely something for Ange Postecoglu to work on. Brentford continued to show why they were so formidable at home last season, even without talisman Ivan Toney (27).

16:41 CET - Some very interesting team news from Stamford Bridge. For Chelsea, Axel Disasi (26), Robert Sanchez (25) and Nicolas Jackson (22) are making their debuts, with Mauricio Pochettino opting for a back three, despite playing a back four throughout pre-season

For Liverpool, Alexis Mac Allister (24) and Dominik Szoboszlai (22) are making their debuts in midfield, with Jurgen Klopp choosing not to play a natural defensive midfielder, as Cody Gakpo (24) makes up that trio. Goals galore?

14:08 CET - Some huge news coming out of Italy. Roberto Mancini (58) has resigned as the national team manager. The former Manchester City manager came under huge pressure after failing to qualify for the World Cup last year.

13:56 CET - Harry Kane (30) has finally been unveiled as a Bayern Munich player. During his press conference, he said: "I've always wanted to push my limits and improve, and see how far that can take me.

"Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives me that opportunity."

11:57 CET - In a quite sensational turn of events, multiple reports are stating that Kylian Mbappe (24) is now set to STAY at PSG this summer and renew his contract until 2025, but with the promise he can move to Real Madrid next summer. One of the most remarkable sagas of this window looks to be coming to a conclusion.

11:20 CET - Speaking of Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham (20) starred on his debut against Bilbao. The Englishman scored and ran the show all night, showing why he is one of the most highly-rated young players in the world.

See what he and his teammates had to say after his performance

10:48 CET - Barcelona begin their LaLiga title defence tonight at 21:30 CET when they head to Getafe. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals Real Madrid will be sweating on the fitness of defender Eder Militao (25), who suffered a worrying-looking injury in their win last night.

We are worried about Militao. It's not looking good... Torn ACL? We can’t rule out anything," Carlo Ancelotti said.

8:52 CET - The Premier League return has not disappointed so far and after Newcastle's stunning dismantling of Emery's Aston Villa yesterday evening, the warning is there for Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool who are all in action today.

At 3 pm CET Tottenham face London rivals Brentford in their first post-Harry Kane match before Chelsea host Liverpool in the first 'top six' clash of the season.

And with the recent Moises Caicedo (21) saga involving both clubs, there is extra importance riding on this meeting than most between the sides.
