Footballer Dani Alves (39) is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault, which allegedly occurred in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30th. Sources close to the Brazilian international categorically deny the accusations.

According to police sources in the Spanish newspaper ABC, the incident occurred inside the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona, where a woman went to the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan security force) to report having been the victim of an alleged sexual assault.

According to the victim's account, the 39-year-old Dani Alves reportedly inserted his hand inside her underwear. After that, she warned her friends who, in turn, alerted the security officers of the venue who activated the protocol of the Ajuntamento de Catalunya against sexual assaults and harassment in nightlife spaces.

The woman was "very nervous", according to sources consulted by the newspaper, and was not left alone at any time. She was later transported to a safe place, and those in charge alerted the Catalan police who went to the scene.

When the victim reported the acts, the alleged assailant had already left the scene. Contacted by the newspaper, the entourage of the player denies the accusations. They assure that the information is false and that Alves was in that space for "a short time" and that "nothing happened".

The Catalan police have already opened an investigation after the alert for alleged sexual assault at the nightclub. The woman has undergone a medical examination at a Barcelona hospital and officers have taken her statement, although she has not yet formalised a complaint.

Dani Alves is currently a Pumas player in Mexico, and recently participated in the World Cup in Qatar for the Brazilian national team.
