Bournemouth bounce back from humiliating loss to draw with wasteful Wolves
The Cherries entered the contest bereft of all confidence and without a permanent manager, after a humiliating 9-0 weekend defeat at Anfield cost Scott Parker his job.
Now under the interim watch of caretaker boss Gary O’Neil, the hosts were fortunate to survive the opening 20 minutes without conceding, with only the crossbar denying Matheus Nunes the chance to open his Wolves account.
Shortly after, a swift counter-attack culminated with Pedro Neto cutting inside from the right flank, before drilling the ball wide of the post.
Although the hosts struggled to offer much of a threat in the final third, after conceding 16 goals in their three previous matches, they would have been content with a goalless half-time scoreline despite Wolves dominating the majority of the first half.
It came as a surprise then, when Bournemouth nearly caught their visitors off guard within a minute of the restart, but Dominic Solanke could only guide his header into the grateful grasp of Jose Sa.
Bruno Lage’s side quickly regained control following Solanke’s effort, but having scored only one league goal this season, their struggles in front of goal highlighted why they have delved into the transfer market to recruit Sasa Kalajdzic, who could make his debut against Southampton on Saturday.
The Austria international will provide competition for Raul Jimenez, who spurned a glorious one-on-one opportunity, before Lloyd Kelly denied Daniel Podence with a goalmouth clearance.
With both sides finding goals hard to come by this term, it was perhaps unsurprising that the contest ended goalless. While Bournemouth may be content with a point that ends a run of three consecutive defeats, Wolves’ wait for their first league win of the season continues.
